Happy birthday to me!

December 28, 2009

My mom is so sneaky.  She’s been making me leave the room while she’s been on the phone for the past week or two, so obviously something was up.  This morning she made me open my birthday card first.  It had a picture of a kitty on it and said, “I always promised you a cat when you finally got an apartment of your own.  Well,  here’s one to keep you company.”  I thought it was a joke and didn’t really pay attention to it, but then she started giving me a series of presents to open.  The first was a cat toy, and I thought it was a gag gift.  But then the next was a pooper scooper… then the doorbell rang and a real live kittycat came!  She’s only on loan, but she has already stolen our hearts.  She didn’t hide at all when she got here — immediately started exploring and checking people out.  She’s definitely not going to be a ‘fraidycat!

Menorah lighting

December 16, 2009

Tonight the local chapter of Chabad had their menorah lighting ceremony at Place Molard.  We got just a light dusting of snow, which gave it a pretty atmosphere.

Here’s the menorah before it was lit:

Lighting the menorah (it took them awhile to get the lift working properly!)

The lit menorah:

I was proud of myself for knowing the songs that were sung and the blessing for lighting the candles.  I was practically the only woman singing, though… that was a little odd.  But somebody has to represent the altos, so I guess that’s me.  There was mulled wine and pastries afterwards, but we didn’t stay because I was too tired.  All in all, though, it was a nice evening. 🙂

Moving day

December 10, 2009

This is the easiest move I’ve ever had — everybody else packed up my belongings and moved them and me.  I literally got picked up out of my bed in the dorm, plunked into the car, and put in the bed in the apartment.  Much better than carting all my belongings back and forth in the tram, which is what I’ve always done before (especially since I have so many things now!)

Just got a call from radio-oncologie — two more radiation appointments this week.

Somebody shoot me now.

Ain’t gonna have radiation no more, no more!

Ain’t gonna have radiation no more!

How in the heck gonna wash my neck,

If I ain’t gonna have radiation no more, no more?

A little holiday cheer

December 3, 2009

By now, probably everyone has seen Straight No Chaser’s “12 Days of Christmas” video.  But here’s a new one for this year, and it’s absolutely brilliant: “The Christmas Can-Can”.
