We’re in luck

April 10, 2012

Mom is on a book-reading craze right now, and she’s got a whole list of books on hold at the library. Three were ready today, including a cookbook entitled, “Soup, glorious soup”. From the outside, it looked like a normal recipe book — it had an author biography and critical reviews on the back, etc.

The surprise came when we opened the book — it’s written entirely in French. Fortunately for us, there is a French-speaking foodie in residence (in the occurrence, me). And the recipes look really good.

It is finished!

My high school scrapbook, that is. It’s been sitting around, unfinished, since I left for Geneva in 2006 (and possibly before that — I don’t remember very well). I added a cover page, pictures from my going-away party (SMH is a boarding school), memorabilia from my performances, college tour photos, and graduation pictures.

I still have a TON of projects left to finish, but it feels good to finally be getting around to them. High school travel scrapbook, here I come! (Then the dog scrapbook, then my Middlebury and study abroad scrapbooks, then the deconstruction and reconstruction of my childhood album…) After that, I’ll finally get to work on new material! It’s sad how far behind I am…

I’m not as stupid as you think

There’s a scam going around right now where people call you and leave a message saying that your Bank of America Visa Gold Card has been blocked and you need to give them your bank info to unblock it.

I don’t bank at Bank of America. And I don’t have a Visa Gold Card.

Nice try.

I’m glad I crack my mom up

My hair has been driving me nuts lately.  I’m working on growing my hair out, but it’s not yet long enough to pull in a ponytail.  As a solution, I pulled it back in a headband, which reminded my mom of this:

We had seen them at the New England Aquarium in Boston when we went on my college search back in 2001.

April Fools to me!

April 1, 2012

I played a great April Fools’ trick on my mom and stepdad this morning. They don’t know it yet because they’ve been out of the house most of the day, but I know how to bide my time.

I’ve already gotten my payback, though — they left to go wildflower watching right after lunch, telling me to pick up dinner at a drive-in. Problem is, Mom drove my car to church this morning and forgot to give me the keys back afterwards. So I’m stuck here at home with no dinner and no transportation.

I guess I played an April Fools’ trick on the dogs, too — I told them they could go on a ride in the car with me before I discovered that the keys were missing.
